BEIGEMA BGA-2 BackGauge
This 2-axis CNC backgauge serves as a standard positioning component for press brakes, integrating X-axis (depth) and R-axis (vertical) motion units driven by a full AC servo system. It enables independent, automatic adjustment of the backgauge depth and finger height to accommodate varying sheet thicknesses and tooling specifications. Delivering stable repeat positioning accuracy of ±0.02mm and supporting 0.1mm fine adjustments, it ensures precise bending dimensions and significantly enhances product consistency. It is compatible with mainstream CNC systems (such as Delem) and both all-electric and electro-hydraulic press brakes, while its modular design allows for future multi-axis upgrades.

BEIGEMA BGA-3+1 BackGauge
This high-configured 3+1 axis CNC backgauge integrates X depth axis, R height axis, Z horizontal moving axis three servo motion units, matched with 1-axis mechanical crowning compensation system, driven by full AC servo system for 3-axis linkage precise control.
It can automatically adapt to various sheet thicknesses, die specifications and irregular workpiece bending requirements, with repeat positioning accuracy up to ±0.01mm and 0.1mm micro adjustment, ensuring precise bending dimension lock. Meanwhile, it compensates bending deflection in real time, greatly improving finished product consistency and processing efficiency.

BEIGEMA BGA-6+1 BackGauge
This top-configured 6+1 axis CNC system is the premium positioning solution for press brakes, integrating 6 servo motion units: Y1/Y2 dual main sliders, X backgauge depth, R stop finger lifting, Z1/Z2 left and right independent horizontal movement, matched with 1-axis mechanical crowning compensation system. The full AC servo drive system realizes precise multi-axis linkage control.
The synchronization accuracy of the dual main sliders is stable within ±0.01mm, and the repeat positioning accuracy of the backgauge is up to ±0.02mm, supporting 0.1mm micro adjustment. It can accurately adapt to various sheet thicknesses, die specifications and complex irregular workpiece bending requirements. Meanwhile, it compensates bending deflection in real time, greatly improving finished product consistency and processing efficiency.

BEIGEMA BGA-8+1 BackGauge
This flagship 8+1 axis CNC system is the premium positioning solution for press brakes, integrating 8 independent servo motion units: Y1/Y2 dual main sliders, X1/X2 dual backgauge depth, R1/R2 dual stop finger lifting, Z-axis overall translation, matched with 1-axis mechanical crowning compensation system.
It can independently adapt to various sheet thicknesses, die specifications and complex irregular workpiece bending requirements in dual stations. Meanwhile, it compensates bending deflection in real time, greatly improving finished product consistency, processing efficiency and equipment flexibility.
Press Brake Back Gauge Axes Explained: X, R, Z1/Z2 and X1/X2
A press brake back gauge positions the sheet before every bend, and the axis count on that back gauge decides how much of that positioning is automatic. X is the depth axis: it drives the gauge fingers forward and back so the sheet sits at the correct distance from the bend line. R is the height axis: it raises or lowers the fingers to match the die and part geometry. An entry NC back gauge usually runs X only; a CNC back gauge adds R so finger height isn’t reset by hand between jobs.
Why add more axes than that? Z1/Z2 give the left and right finger carriages independent positions along the back gauge beam instead of moving together as one unit — useful when a part has flanges of different lengths on each side. X1/X2 apply the same split control to depth, so the left and right fingers can each hold a different distance from the bend line. That’s what lets a CNC back gauge square up a tapered or trapezoidal part, not just a plain rectangle.
Back gauge by BEIGEMA press brake series
On the WC67K NC press brake with the E21 controller, the E21 positions the back gauge (X) and stop (Y) automatically, replacing the old hand-cranked system. The MB8 CNC press brake with DA-53Tx runs a Y1+Y2+X+R back gauge, and the DA-66S and DA-69S versions run an 8+1 axis back gauge with 8-axis multi-directional positioning plus W-axis compensation.
The tandem press brake uses a Hiwin back gauge on a ball screw and linear guide drive, with repeat positioning accuracy up to ±0.01 mm and servo-controlled X-axis plus optional R-axis movement. On the pure electric press brake, Back Gauge and Stop Finger are among the Optional Parts, with a maximum X-axis travel of 400 or 600 mm and an R-axis travel of 200 mm.
| Machine / controller | Back gauge | X-axis travel | Precision / stoppers |
|---|---|---|---|
| WC67K, E21 | X (back gauge) and Y (stop) | — | — |
| MB8, DA-53Tx | Y1+Y2+X+R | 500 / 800 / 1000 mm by model | Rear gauge precision 0.05 mm; 2–10 back stoppers |
| MB8, DA-66S / DA-69S | 8+1 axis | 500 / 800 / 1000 mm by model | Rear gauge precision 0.05 mm; 2–10 back stoppers |
| Pure electric | Optional, with Stop Finger | 400 / 600 mm; R-axis 200 mm | — |
| Tandem | Hiwin; X + optional R | — | Repeat positioning up to ±0.01 mm |
What is the difference between the back gauge X-axis and R-axis?
The X-axis sets the depth — how far the gauge fingers sit from the bend line, which controls the flange length. The R-axis raises or lowers the fingers to match the die and part height. On the BGA-2 back gauge, both run on a full AC servo system, so backgauge depth and finger height adjust independently and automatically.
What do Z1/Z2 and X1/X2 mean on a CNC back gauge?
Z1/Z2 let the left and right finger carriages sit at different points along the back gauge beam. X1/X2 let each side hold a different depth. Together they let a CNC back gauge handle parts that aren’t simple rectangles, such as tapered flanges. Among BEIGEMA’s own back gauges, the BGA-6+1 adds Z1/Z2 and the BGA-8+1 adds X1/X2 and R1/R2; the press brake controller comparison covers the E21, DA-53T, DA-66S and DA-69S.
Can the BGA-2 back gauge be upgraded to more axes later?
Yes. Its modular design allows future multi-axis upgrades, and it works with mainstream CNC systems such as Delem on both all-electric and electro-hydraulic press brakes.
How far does the MB8 back gauge travel?
X-axis travel is 500 mm from 63T/1300 to 400T/4000, 800 mm from 500T/6000 to 1000T/10000 and 1000 mm on the 1200T/6000 and 1200T/7000. Rear gauge precision is 0.05 mm on every model, with 2 to 10 back stoppers depending on the model.
